My grand girl Lexi, a graduate of Davis, this week is 22. She mentioned to her mom that she was sending me a birthday card. It turns out she didn’t know she had to put a stamp on it! 

“What’s a stamp?" she asked.

Loch, my grandson, is 18 and goes to Berkeley. He didn’t know about stamps or how to send a letter, either. 

His mom told him he had to put a stamp on my card to send it.

I talked to him on the phone. He said he started peeling used stamps off letters to put on my card. “I thought mom meant they had to be stamped.”

He also didn’t realize he needed to put a return address on his card. That card has never gotten to me: with a used stamp and no return address. 
Neither kid knew HOW to physically send their cards either! 

I mention their colleges so you know they are smart enough to know things -- but this generation is so far advanced and in so many tech ways that most of us older folk are neanderthals, but at least we know how to send a letter!
