Next Karen asked me to find her and Monica’s mother. She had died at 92.
I called out the name they gave me and an old woman came out of a portal on the Other Side. She had a "stick" like a cane.
“Nope the ladies said, “She never had a cane.”
I said, “I see her imperious and mad and waving the stick around in the air like she is going to thrash someone.”
“Nope, mom was never like that.”
I got another few things wrong and was wondering why… when I got a clue.
“Wait a minute!” I said. “I wonder if this is an interloper, someone who has found someone who can talk to the dead and she’s butting into our conversations? Every once in a while this happens when I’m on the Other Side.”
I asked the suspected interloper to stand back. She would not. Then I TOLD her to stand back, saying that she was being rude and intrusive. That this wasn’t her time or place to reach the living.
Karen and Monica said, “Oh. You know what? The name we gave you was not her real name. She was from Italy and she has an Italian name.
Ahah. Once they gave me that name, I got my confidence back
Next, I had to kind of muscle around the interloper, push her aside and go close to the portal and call out for the correct mother, using the Italian name.
It took awhile but she finally came. The ladies mother seemed timid and I had to coax her all the way out. I asked a few questions and got answers from her daughters that said, “That sounds like her.”
I saw the mother going to a high window and looking down at the two ladies. The daughters agreed with something else I said, but finally I said with frustration, "This lady just isn’t giving me much information!”
Together, both women shouted, “That’s our mother!”
After this session I was exhausted from trying to keep everyone in order, those who were dead and those who were alive… plus dealing with a dead interloper.
After I closed the session and said goodbye to all assembled, I had to make myself a sandwich and go outside and eat, because I was still emotionally tangled up in the pile of people I’d just been with.
And… the Dead Interloper was still with me!
It took me a long time to get the Interloper to leave me alone. As I ate the sandwich and watched the birds in the garden, I kept telling this woman that she was being rude by intruding and that I couldn’t help her as I didn’t know what living person she wanted to do battle with and I had no way of finding out. I kept trying to push this woman out of my head but she wouldn’t budge.
Finally, I just gave it up and went inside and took a nap. I slept for an hour and woke up fine. That woman was gone.
Apparently the old lady got bored and annoyed with me for sleeping and blocking her out.
Some readings are easy and some like this one are harder than others. The sheer number of people living and dead for me to keep track of and individualize and then to have a stranger who butted in, made for a difficult time.
But, if I brought any joy and relief to the ladies and everyone else involved, its worth it to me.
It's what I do and I love my work.
